Correlation

A comparison of the Catachem Magnesium method was carried out using an automated analyzer and against a reference method based on the calmagite reaction. The following regression statistics were observed.

Preparation Of Working Reagent

Catachem Magnesium Reagent is packaged in a ready-to-use form. No preparation is required.

Reagent Storage And Stability

Catachem Magnesium Reagent is stored at 2-8°C. When stored as directed, the reagent is stable until the expiration date stated on the label.

Method Performance Characteristics

Sensitivity: 0.05-0.07 absorbance units/mg/DL.

Linear Range: 0.0 - 12.0 mg/dL.

Precision: Within-run and day-to-day precision is summarized below:

Intended Use

For IN VITRO diagnostic use in the quantitative determination of Magnesium in serum using manual or automated applications.

Method Principle

The serum sample is mixed with the Magnesium reagent where the total Magnesium ions react with the calmagite indicator to form a pink Magnesium-chelate complex with concomitant  reduction of the reagent absorbance which has a broad absorbance peak between 600nm and 650nm. The decrease in absorbance is directly proportional to the Magnesium concentration in the serum sample. The following reaction scheme illustrates the events that take place in this Magnesium procedure.
